Cataract Surgery is typically performed in about 10-15 minutes, with the entire process taking only a few hours. Prior to surgery, patients are often administered anesthesia and medicated eye drops to minimize any discomfort during the operation. This routine procedure begins with your surgeon making a small incision using a tiny instrument (about the size of a pen tip) to access the clouded, natural lens. The natural, cloudy lens is broken up using high-frequency ultrasound and then gently removed by suction. At this point, an intraocular lens implant is placed, and the procedure is complete. Thanks to the minimal incision, stitches are normally not required.

Patients are free to return to their normal daily activities immediately after and the vision change is often instantaneous.

Within one week of your procedure, you can expect a call from our pre-operative specialist to review a variety of reminders and instructions. They will discuss with you the surgery and arrival time, eating and drinking restrictions and any other instructions related to your specific procedure. Our pre-operative specialists are happy to answer any remaining questions you may have and will make sure you feel comfortable and prepared for your upcoming surgery.
Download our Patient BrochureFollow the appropriate fasting instructions provided during your pre-operative phone call. Depending on the type and time of your procedure, you may be asked to refrain from eating and drinking anything after midnight.
At the time of scheduling the procedure, you will likely receive a surgery folder containing post-op appointment information and a yellow anesthesia form. Please fill out the yellow anesthesia form and bring it with you on the day of surgery day.
If you are undergoing an elective procedure or are opting into an upgraded, non-covered service package, please be aware that we will collect payment at check-in.
Please have a driver accompany you to and from your surgery. They may stay with you for the duration of your surgery, which may be anywhere from 2.5 – 4 hours including pre-op and post-op. They may also leave a phone number and our team will contact them when they need to return to the facility.
